Description The discipline aims to analyze the international minimum standards in the refugee status determination, norms of the Convention on the Refugee Status 1951, EU legislation and national legislation on the legal status of refugees. The discipline covers issues of a refugee notion, goals, characteristics and correlation of the refugee protection with other instruments of displaced persons protection; characteristics and functions of national and international instruments in the field; criteria of inclusion, exclusion and termination of the refugee status, general minimum standards of the procedures of the refugee status determination and refugees treatment. The discipline seeks to explore the margins between refugee legislation and the broader field of international human rights law and provide students with an analytical framework for their work involving refugees, asylum seekers, supplementary and temporary protected as well as internally displaced persons. The students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the refugee status determination interviews, assisting refugees with applications, and follow up on the procedure, including appeals procedure for rejected cases.
